Stacy Middle School World Language teachers Ms. Maria Calvillo and Ms. Holly Davoren hoped to bring Spanish culture alive for their students. They received a generous grant from the Milford Cultural Council funding a cooking event for 41 students. On Friday, March 27, a busload of eager, hungry students arrived at Third Space Kitchen, where they were greeted by 4 chefs. The students were divided into groups and instructed in Spanish on how to make paella and empanadas. The staff proudly shared the origins of each dish with the students and then invited everyone to sit in a festively decorated area. Buen Provecho was called out as the chefs served the students their delicious creations. Soon thereafter, flan and churros were served as dessert treats to end the amazing experience. Cuisine is a powerful tool to connect students to the culture they are studying at school. Sharing in the preparation and consumption of the meal created an atmosphere of belonging, comfort, and tradition.
On Thursday, March 26, Stacy World Language Teachers and French Club Advisors, Ms. Holly Davoren and Mr. Brian Shuman brought 13 eager French students up to the MHS cafeteria to cook, bake and sample six delicious French treats. They made quiche, ratatouille, poutine, crepes, eclairs, and cream puffs with Ms. Carla Tuttle, MPS Food Services Director, and her staff - delicious and fun!

MHS students in Mr. Austin Costa's Zoology class spent time at Louisa Lake continuing their field studies program in collaboration with our partners at NOAA and Whale and Dolphin Conservation. During this experience, students investigated the impact of fertilizer use and runoff within our community and how these factors affect local aquatic ecosystems. Our students found some tiny - and adorable! - baby turtles that only emphasized how important this work is to our ecosystem!
MHS students in Mr. Austin Costa’s Zoology class got to visit with animals of all shapes and sizes - from the creepy to the crawly to the adorable. Thank you to Dave Marchetti’s Animal Experiences for the visit!
