We are excited to share that the lottery for Cohort 2 of our Spanish/English Dual Language Program (Class of 2039) was held in late March. It was wonderful to see several families attend and be part of this important milestone. This year, we had nearly 100 families enter the lottery, reflecting the continued enthusiasm and interest in our dual language program. We are currently working closely with selected families to confirm enrollment. Once placements are finalized, we will move to the waitlist as needed. We are thrilled to welcome our second dual language cohort and continue building on the strong foundation established by the Class of 2038, who will be moving on to Grade 1. We are grateful for the ongoing support from our community.
Our SEL Director, Ms. Stacia Copeland, was recently recognized by the Jamaican Association of Massachusetts (JAMA) for her cultural dedication, authenticity, and transformative leadership. Her commitment to uplifting the Jamaican diaspora and advancing the mission of JAMA has been purposeful and impactful. We feel fortunate to have Stacia in the MPS!

The online application for SUN Bucks (formerly Summer EBT) is now open. This federal food benefit program provides a $120 lump-sum summer benefit per school-aged child for income-eligible families. All students identified as meeting the income eligibility standards for free or reduced-price lunch during school year 2025-26, either through an NSLP household paper application or direct certification, are automatically eligible for SUN Bucks. Students identified as homeless, migrant, runaway, or participating in Head Start are also automatically eligible. The program is administered by the state Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) in partnership with DESE with assistance from schools. Find details and learn how to apply on the SUN Bucks website.
The Annual All-District Visual Arts Show will be held May 14 from 5-8 p.m. at Milford High School. Artwork will be showcased from students in Grades 1-12, as well as works from MHS photographers, makers, and creators. There will also be demonstrations and various creations for sale. Milford Public Schools is pleased to announce that we have selected O’Connor Studios as our district-wide photography partner beginning with the 2026–2027 school year. O’Connor Studios is locally owned in Tewksbury, MA. They are a company with over 60 years of experience photographing New England schools. Their program focuses on a consistent, family-friendly experience across the district, including a district-wide family plan where the first two children are full price and additional children are free, providing added value for families with multiple students. In addition, every student will receive a print, ensuring all families have access to a yearly photo of their child regardless of purchase.

The state and district champion MHS Varsity Wrestling Team surprised Ms. Kaitlin McGrath’s second grade class at Brookside by volunteering as “Mystery Readers." The team presented a slide deck about the sport of wrestling, shared pictures and video clips of both the MHS and youth teams, read “The Hard Hat” in small groups, and played on the playground with the class. As always, we believe the older kids had more fun playing basketball, football, tag, and dancing outside.
The MHS Athletics Boosters will be holding their annual Golf Tournament on June 25 at Shining Rock Golf Club. Proceeds from this great event go directly back to our student-athletes and teams in the form of scholarships, equipment, team gear, and other supports for our players and coaches. The organizing committee is looking for just a few more golfers from this always-sold-out event, as well as sponsors for the tournament. Register as a player or a foursome, or become a sponsor, by emailing Tournament Chair Paul Pellegrini at [email protected].
Stacy Middle School
At Stacy Middle School, the French Junior National Honor Society advised by Stacy French teachers Ms. Holly Davoren and Mr. Brian Shuman raised $1,000 at Stacy Middle School throughout the month of March as part of their induction to the Honor Society this Spring. These 8th Grade French students completed a Community Service Project called “Change for a Change” involving all homerooms at Stacy to benefit a French and Swiss organization called Apprentis d'Auteuil. This foundation protects the rights of children in French speaking countries who are often homeless, hungry, and abused. Ms. Arroyo's 6th graders were crowned The Most Generous Homeroom!
Approximately 140 eighth graders from Stacy Middle School led by advisors Mr. Vinnie Alcazaren and Ms. Holly Davoren - as well as 11 teachers, 3 nurses and Officer Pinto - traveled to Washington, D.C. to witness the diversity of museums offering cultural, educational, and interactive experiences, and to appreciate the beauty of our nation’s monuments. Highlights included students engaging in discussions with Holocaust survivors; riding the simulators at the Udvar-Hazy Science and Space Center; and laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as at the grave of Milford’s fallen soldier Elia Fontecchio. Many students used their investigative skills to determine the guilty party in the Kennedy Center murder mystery “Shear Madness.” Students also showed off their graceful moves on the dance floor of a Potomac River dinner cruise. So much gratitude goes to the 17 dedicated adult chaperones who ensured the safety of their students! They are proud of the respect, responsibility, independence, and teamwork the students displayed on the trip - a memory of a lifetime!
Heritage Week is an opportunity for students who don’t go on the Washington, D.C. trip to have meaningful and cultural experiences with their peers. Our field trips helped students explore both local and U.S. history by means of a Milford-based scavenger hunt, Boston Duck Boat tours, and the American Heritage Museum in Hudson. Students also participated in activities like Minute to Win It, crafts, and outdoor games. Throughout the week, staff received many compliments on the students’ ability to be safe, responsible, and respectful. SOAR STACY HAWKS!
Woodland Elementary School
Congratulations to Ms. Michelle Sirois, one of our Math Intervention teachers at Woodland. Ms. Sirois presented with the Education Development Center (EDC) around the research that she and Woodland colleague Ms. Tara Davoren engaged in over the past 2 years developing a high-quality mathematics intervention toolkit for grades 3-6, accompanied by professional learning opportunities. This research was conducted in partnership with the Institute of Education Sciences and is a recommendation from What Works Clearinghouse (WWC). This work is important in mathematics education research and it is great to have Ms. Sirois represent Milford Public Schools as a part of this work.
Woodland Elementary School debuted a vibrant, neon-lit immersive exhibit titled "Glow in the Dark." Curated by Visual Arts educators Ms. Lisa Duarte and Ms. Adrienne Delaney, the multisensory event showcased the creative achievements of over 1,000 students in grades 3 through 5. The "Glow Gallery" seamlessly integrated art and science, utilizing UV-reactive materials and blacklights to bring student-designed neon murals and sculptures to life. The exhibit was thoughtfully designed as an inclusive, sensory-friendly experience, welcoming members of the entire Milford community to engage with the students' work in a unique, luminous environment. This ambitious project was made possible through a generous grant funded by the Milford Cultural Council.
Brookside Elementary School
Brookside Second Graders hosted MHS SADD members for a presentation on Road Safety. Thank you for helping keep our students safe!
Brookside families and students gathered to participate in a fun evening of song and movement celebrating Music in Our Schools Month. Brookside students wrapped up Music in Our Schools month with a performance by “Manguito, A Musical Journey Through the Caribbean.”
Thank you to all our families that came out for our Family Math Night. Students taught adults how to play ST Math, families learned about our new YouTube Channel, and adults learned how our students are taught math in Milford! The famous Jiji the Penguin provided photo opportunities! It was a great turnout!
Brookside students earned a Crazy Hair Day by reaching one of their Boosterthon Goals. Our staff, students, and families are so creative!
Some Brookside students also earned a Basket Competition between Jiji the Penguin and School Resource Officer Brian Hayes by gaining 16% progress on ST Math as a class over the month of March! Our students can certainly persevere!
Memorial Elementary School
First grade English Language learners at Memorial just finished their unit in which they learned about the difference between "wants" and "needs" and practiced arguing by stating their opinions, supported with reasoning and evidence. Then, they went on to learn about the steps of getting goods from farms and factories to people, and practiced sequencing and explaining the process. The culminating project of the unit was making crafts from around the world such as Brazilian Carnival masks and Ecuadorian woven mats. The students enjoyed pretending to buy and sell them in a market!
Memorial Elementary School proudly honored more than 120 readers at its Books and Beyond Ceremony. Over the course of eight weeks, students rose to the challenge of reading seven books per week — and their hard work paid off. We couldn't be more proud of our incredible community of readers!
Shining Star Early Childhood Center
Shining Star Early Childhood Center proudly hosted its annual Invention Convention—and wow, did our little innovators shine bright! Our Stars did an amazing job collaborating on class projects, starting with blueprints that blossomed into small replicas, and ultimately working together to build impressive large-scale inventions. The creativity on display was out of this world! We saw it all: a recycling truck complete with trash bins, an ice cream shop, an airplane ready for takeoff, a castle with a retractable door, another castle bustling with princesses and dragons, an excavator, a sailboat, a TV featuring student-created artwork, and even our very own “Dunkin Donuts” serving up coffee and donuts. There was also a washing machine and dryer, and a log cabin—with an outhouse (unused, we’re happy to report!). This project, part of Shining Star’s “Imagine It, Make It” theme, beautifully tied together all areas of the curriculum while fostering teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. The students truly amazed us with their imagination, perseverance, and ability to bring big ideas to life!
Shining Star’s Staff Spotlight shines on:
• Ms. Michelle Madden. Her creativity, calm presence, compassion and nurturing way allows her to connect with all of her students in a special way . She is a great problem solver and always has the students' best interest at heart. She truly has a gift working with children; especially the medically fragile students. Michelle is a team player and an amazing person to work with!
• Ms. Carrie Austin. Carrie embodies the qualities of a wonderful preschool educator while combining genuine empathy, compassion, and dedication to both her students and colleagues. Her commitment to individualized student care is evident in her ability to recognize and respond to each child's unique developmental needs. Carrie's empathetic approach has earned the respect and admiration of the entire school community. Beyond her classroom, she demonstrates remarkable kindness and professionalism, consistently offering thoughtful support and advice to fellow staff members. She listens attentively, engages meaningfully, and creates an environment where children and colleagues alike feel valued and heard. Carrie is a trusted resource and a true asset to our school!
• Ms. Tina Delgado. She truly loves working with the students, and it shows in the way she connects with them. You can see how deeply she cares in the way she greets the children, notices their moods, and celebrates even the tiniest wins with them. She also works non-stop to make sure everything is prepared and ready for the class. Ms. Delgado has been such a great asset to Shining Star between her amazing work ethic, her love for our students, and the help she provides to staff.
