Center Book Group
The Center Book Group meets next on Tuesday, May 19 at 10 a.m. to discuss Replaceable You: Adventures in Human Anatomy by Mary Roach. Roach, best known for her riveting book, Stiff: The Curious Life of Human Cadavers, makes complex medical and scientific concepts both understandable and entertaining. In my NPR interview, she said that she’s fascinated by the “gooey bits and pieces of us that are performing miracles on a daily basis.”
In Replaceable You, Roach describes how pig and other animal organs came to be used to replace failing human parts and the challenges that brings. She also investigates the growing science of 3-D printing of limbs, muscles and tissues.

Milford Town Library Adult Book Club
The May meeting of the Milford Town Library Adult Book Club is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m. Please join us! Designed for readers 18 and older, our meetings will take place on the third Thursday of each month.
Our May title is The Wedding by Dorothy West. One of the younger members of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s, West earned the nickname “The Kid” from Langston Hughes. Set on Martha’s Vineyard in the 1950s, The Wedding was edited by Jacqueline Onassis and published in 1995 when West was 88 years old. The novel’s action centers on the affluent African American Coles family whose daughter Shelby is getting married. The family belongs to the black elite on Martha’s Vineyard. Having lived there for several decades, West moved within these social circles.
Copies of the book are available at the circulation desk, or check out on the Libby app. Questions? Call 508-473-2145 ext. 2 or email [email protected].
