Brookside’s Katherine Peck nominated for National LifeChanger of the Year award
Brookside Elementary School reading specialist Katherine Peck has been nominated for National Life Group’s 2025-26 LifeChanger of the Year award. National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership.
Peck was nominated by her spouse, Philip Howard, for going above and beyond in every way possible to inspire and uplift those around her, from her fellow teachers to her students.
Peck understands that teaching is a team effort, and that the success of her students is closely tied to the well-being of her colleagues and the resources available to everyone in the school community. Peck is constantly advocating for the resources her colleagues require to enhance their teaching, whether it's materials, supplies, or emotional support. She is always ready to lend a hand, offering her knowledge and advice on how to make the most of available tools or how to approach tricky classroom situations. Peck is a collaborative spirit who fosters an environment of mutual support and learning among the staff, ensuring no one ever feels isolated or under-resourced.
Regarding her students, Peck understands that learning can't happen without the basics. She has made it her mission to provide each child with what they need to be ready to learn. Peck makes this possible by seeking donations and working with her community and local businesses to secure what her students require.
“Mrs. Peck's willingness to go the extra mile for her classroom and the entire school community sets her apart as a truly inspiring educator. Her commitment to ensuring that teachers and students have everything they need to thrive, combined with her passion for helping others succeed, creates a ripple effect of positivity and growth that benefits everyone she works with,” said Howard. ”Through her dedication, compassion, and willingness to share, she continues to make an impact that extends far beyond the walls of her classroom.”
To be considered for an award, nominees must be K-12 teachers or school district employees, and make a positive impact on the lives of students; enhance their school or district’s atmosphere, culture, and pride; demonstrate exemplary leadership at the school and/or district level; possess a proven record of professional excellence; show commitment to building a nurturing environment that supports learning; and adhere to the highest moral and ethical standards.
Winners will be announced in early 2026. Several prizes exist including a grand prize of $20,000 to be shared with their school/district.
