Marcelo Gomes da Silva of Milford has been named to the Boston Globe Magazine’s list of “2025 Bostonians of the Year: Six Acts of Courage.”
The list was printed in the Globe Magazine on Dec. 14, 2025. Gomes is first on the list under “Voice for the Voiceless.”
On a Saturday in May, Gomes, then 18 years old, was captured by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on his way to volleyball practice. Milford was stunned and rallied around him, and the story made national news. He was detained for six days before being released.
Gomes is a senior at Milford High School and is now considering a future as an activist.
