On July 19, 140Arts Collaborative hosted “Hot Scripts, Cold Beer,” a casual and fun-filled evening of live script reading at Rushford & Sons Brewhouse in Upton. The event ran from 4 – 6 p.m. and drew a creative crowd ready for some laughs and good beer.
Led by Matthew Fear, drama director at Nipmuc Regional High School, participants read short, funny scripts together in small groups. No acting experience was required—just a sense of humor and a willingness to join in. Ten readers took turns bringing characters to life, while another 15 folks relaxed and enjoyed the show.
“We read a selection of one-act plays from ‘All in the Timing’ from David Ives, and people really leaned into the fun,” said Fear. “Some were seasoned performers, and others were totally new to it. It was just a great mix of people sharing stories and having a good time.”
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” commented Sue Perry of Upton. “But everyone made me feel welcome and it was the best time. I can’t wait for the next one.”
