Dottie Leighton, Mendon’s oldest resident, dies at age 99

On Aug. 4, Mendon has lost its oldest resident, Dorothy “Dottie” Leighton, who was 99 years young.
Dottie (1926-2025) was a lover of dance, an active member of the Senior Center, Senior of the Year in 2020, and a long-time senior worker in the abatement program, among other distinctions. She was awarded Mendon’s Boston Post Cane in 2022. She was a past member of the Mendon Council on Aging and a past member of the Mendon Baptist Church.
According to her obituary, “Dottie had many achievements during her lifetime her greatest achievement was her family especially when her son became a Mendon Police Officer and when her daughter graduated from Dean College. She was proud of every accomplishment her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren made and was always present for those accomplishments.”
