On Aug. 10, the Mendon Council on Aging and the Friends of Mendon Elders hosted a Senior Tea for Mendon seniors aged 85 and over.

The event was funded by the Friends of Mendon Elders.

Attendees enjoyed each other’s company, meeting old friends and making new ones over music and refreshments.

Joan Marino attended this year's Senior Tea with her daughter.

"It was delightful," said Marino, who will be 90 later this month. "It's a pretty little china cup, and refreshments, and it's just delightful how they set it up."

John Palumbo, 92, also attended the event.

“I thought it was super, everything was very well done,” said Palumbo. “And the man on the piano was playing great songs; it was wonderful, it really and truly was.”

Both Marino and Palumbo praised the senior center staff for the many programs and events they offer area seniors.

Events such as the Senior Tea are coordinated annually by the Council on Aging who handle the invitations, coordinate transportation. and supply the tea pots and cups/saucers collected over the years by volunteer Ann Halsing over the years.

The Friends of Mendon Elders is the primary sponsor. The Friends volunteer, Dottie Garceau, who collaborated with the COA, coordinated the finger sandwiches, table decorations and tea.

The event is staffed by COA staff and members, and Friends volunteers. COA board member Earl Pearlman has been playing piano for many years with songs from the Great American Songbook.
