Joan Spencer, 88, of Upton and formerly of Wayland, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 following a period of declining health.

She was the daughter of the late Albert H. Spencer and Bessie (Kingston) Spencer.  She was the loving mother of Elizabeth “Liz” Spencer Cintolo and her husband Thomas “Scott” Cintolo of Upton. Devoted grandmother of Thomas A.S. Cintolo of Upton. Sister of Linda Spencer of Lexington and the late Betty Lou Johnson. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. 

Joan spent her formative years in Wayland, attended the Cochituate Grammar School and graduated with the Wayland High School Class of 1955.

She had been a longtime resident of Cochituate and resided in Upton for many years to be closer to family. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church when living in Cochituate and most recently a member of The United Parish of Upton.

She retired as an Executive Secretary from Raytheon in Marlborough after nearly 20 years of dedicated service.

Joan was devoted to her family and will be remembered as always hosting the “Family Holidays”. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and was an accomplished painter in oil and acrylic paints. She was most happy when she was surrounded by those she loved and especially her beloved cat Lucy.

At Joan’s request, all services will be private for family only.

Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 (dana-farber.org/gift), as Joan beat cancer on six occasions during her life or to Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, 500 Legacy Farm N, Hopkinton, MA 01748.
