Stacy Middle School teacher receives Shine Award

The Milford Public Schools and Stacy Middle School are thrilled to announce that Ms. Maria Calvillo has been nominated for the 2025 Latino Educators Shine Awards. Presented by Latinos for Education in partnership with Massachusetts State Senator Adam Gomez, this prestigious recognition honors Latino educators across Massachusetts for their outstanding contributions in the classroom. Ms. Calvillo's nomination was proudly submitted by Massachusetts State Representative Brian Murray.

Ms. Calvillo has served as a dedicated Spanish Language and Heritage Spanish Language teacher at Stacy Middle School in Milford since 2017. She is known for creating learning environments that empower her students. This year, she was instrumental in introducing the Seal of Biliteracy at the middle school level, helping students gain recognition for their multilingual skills.

Dr. Caridad Lopez, Principal of Stacy Middle School, added, “I am incredibly proud of Sra. Calvillo for being nominated for the 2025 Latino Educators Shine Awards. Her dedication to creating inclusive, culturally rich learning environments and her passion for empowering multilingual students have had a profound impact on our school community. Beyond her work at SMS, Ms. Calvillo also teaches evening ESL classes through the Milford High School Adult Education Program, extending her impact to adult English learners in the community.

Her unwavering commitment to language education and student success makes her a truly deserving nominee and a valued member of the Milford Public Schools community.
