Milford High School and the Blackstone Valley Education Foundation (BVEF) proudly announced that MHS educators Ms. Ursula Hunt and Mr. Damien Gaudet have been awarded the Osterman Family Foundation Grant worth $1,715 for their proposal entitled, “MHS Virtual Reality Learning Experiences.”

This grant will fund Virtual Reality (VR) Learning Experiences at Milford High School to transform the way students engage with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. By integrating VR into computer science, web design, and game design courses, students will gain immersive, interactive experiences that strengthen their understanding of coding, 3D modeling, and design principles. VR technology will allow students to prototype and visualize their projects in real-time, fostering deeper comprehension and engagement. This initiative aligns with Milford High School’s emphasis on innovation and commitment to career readiness.

“Encouraging critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving through virtual reality simulations, in addition to the technical skills students will be taught, are just some of the outcomes we anticipate,” Hunt shared. “As Milford High expands our post-secondary and vocational training offerings, we are excited to provide hands-on learning experiences that align with career pathways in technology and STEM fields.”

Mr. Gaudet added, “Boosting student confidence and reducing anxiety by allowing them to practice skills in a low-risk, immersive environment, where they can experiment, make mistakes, and learn without fear of failure makes this an amazing opportunity for our students. We think this will be a motivating and exciting experience that will expose more students to industries such as game design, software development, and engineering.”

Milford High School Principal, Dr. Josh Otlin, thanked the BVEF for their support. “The Blackstone Valley Education Foundation has consistently championed innovation in our schools, and supported our educators who develop creative and impactful opportunities for our students. We’re very appreciative of this grant award.”
