The Milford Parks and Recreation Department, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Blue Cross), and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) today announced a partnership that has brought an outdoor Fitness Court® Studio and digital wellness programming to Milford. The Fitness Court® Studio, located at Milford Town Park, will open Saturday, June 21 at 1 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony during the Town Park Celebration.

The Fitness Court® Studio was developed by the Milford Parks Department, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and NFC to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities across the region. The Fitness Court® is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets users leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.

Created for adults of all abilities aged 14+, the Fitness Court® Studio workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users also may download the free Fitness Court® App, which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience. Milford is one of 15 Campaign Partners building a network of Fitness Courts across the state, with the help of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Milford Parks and Recreation Administrator Jim Asam says, “The Fitness Court® Studio will provide an innovative addition to Milford’s park system, providing teenagers and adults with the opportunity to get a high-quality workout without paying a gym fee. The Studio portion of the Fitness Court provides an outdoor experience for group exercise, such as yoga and gymnastics.”

The 32-feet-wide multipurpose training wall that anchors the Fitness Court® Studio features a mural created by Massachusetts artist Carol Abram. Her design, titled “Fitness for All,” showcases health and wellness in Milford, while celebrating the diversity of the population and highlighting historic aspects of the community. Abram’s design was selected from over 30 submissions to a Call to Artists executed by the Milford Cultural Council in December 2023. Her mural has been printed on high quality, anti-graffiti laminated vinyl and applied to the studio side of the Fitness Court. Abram was awarded a $5,000 grant from NFC for her work.

All residents are invited to attend the launch event on Sat., June 21 at Milford Town Park to try the Fitness Court® Studio and see the new mural.
