Nipmuc Regional High School awarded $5,000 to support athletic programs
MENDON — Mendon-Upton Regional School District Superintendent Maureen Cohen and Nipmuc Regional High School Co-Principals John Clements and Mary Anne Moran recently announced that the high school has been selected for a $5,000 Award from T-Mobile to support the athletic programs.
As part of T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights campaign, which aims to bring awareness to the company's investments in rural America, the campaign offers a $2 million prize to give one small town a football field makeover, $25,000 to 16 finalists and $5,000 to 300 high schools.
Four-time Super Bowl Champion Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski has been an ambassador for this campaign, helping to highlight the charm of small-town high school football in various communities.
"As Athletic director I am very appreciative of our community and their support for our athletic programs," Athletic Director Chris Schmidt said. "Their willingness to take to social media and help publicize our program led to us receiving this prize. The money won't go to football specifically but I am going to work with the community to see how we can use it to benefit the school as a whole.”
