‘Dig Pink’ initiative raises $4,700 for breast cancer treatment and research
MENDON - Throughout October, the Miscoe Hill Middle School Girls Volleyball team, under the leadership of Coach Bill McInnis, led a community-wide “Dig Pink” initiative, raising $4,700 in support of breast cancer treatment and research at Milford Regional Hospital. The team engaged in a variety of fundraising activities, including:
• Concessions Sales: The athletes sold home-made snacks and refreshments during games, providing a tasty way for fans to support the cause.
• Awareness Bracelets: The team offered breast cancer awareness bracelets, allowing supporters to show their commitment to the fight against breast cancer.
• Buck-a-Bump Marathon: In a creative twist, the team held a “Buck-a-Bump” event where supporters pledged $1 for every successful bump players executed while keeping the ball in the air.
To celebrate the success of the program, the team challenged Miscoe Hill teachers and staff to a volleyball game on Oct. 25 with the entire student body in attendance along with guests Liz Fleming and Julie Whitney from the Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation. After winning 25-23, the team presented the donation to the Foundation.
Thanks to the hard work and contributions from our players, parents, and the community in the fight against breast cancer!
