Milford Public Schools districtwide news

November 27-29 - No School - Thanksgiving break.
On Oct. 11, in between professional planning and learning meetings, the collective staff of the Milford Public Schools gathered together for the annual presentation of the Sen. Louis Bertonazzi Outstanding Educator Award. Each year, six educators (one from each school) are recognized for their outstanding efforts on behalf of our students, colleagues, and school community. One of those six is named the Outstanding Educator of the Year. As is often mentioned, we have many phenomenal educators in our schools who do amazing things in the classroom. Their efforts should also be celebrated and acknowledged. However, the Bertonazzi Award is a chance to call out just a few of the many outstanding teachers we have for some “extra” recognition and appreciation Congratulations are in order to these awesome educators! This year’s honorees include:
• Milford High School: Nicholas Molinari
• Stacy Middle School: Lisa Rizoli
• Woodland Elementary School: Katherine Andrews
• Memorial Elementary School: Christine Skiba (Outstanding Teacher of the Year)
• Brookside Elementary School: Laura Nadolski
• Shining Star Early Childhood Center: Carrie Austin

This was also the first time the EL Department organized a field trip for English Learners. This was a wonderful experience for our new students and a great chance to learn and practice their English skills!

The Community Foundation for MetroWest held a Community Leadership Reception on Thursday, Oct. 10 honoring their Equity in Education Action Projects. One of their Equity in Education Action Projects is an Afterschool Math Tutoring Club at Stacy Middle School. This program is a true collaboration between the Foundation, Milford Public Schools, Life Science Cares, and Saga Education. Last year, this program served 20 Sixth Grade students with 95% of the students showing growth on diagnostic testing. This year we are doubling our impact by continuing to serve 20 Sixth Grade students and adding 20 Seventh Grade students. A big thank you to Nilda Arroyo at Stacy Middle School for facilitating the program as the Afterschool Math Tutoring Club Liaison.
Grade 7 students will be making their annual visit to Nature's Classroom the week of November 18-22. Additionally, students experience an extended stay away from home, learning to live and work together with peers under the supervision of teachers, staff members, and parent chaperones.
