Artwork: Ed Iacovelli
Local artist Ed Iacovelli returns to exhibit his soul stirring pen, ink and watercolor paintings at the library throughout November. Ed, who is colorblind, began sketching over 50 years ago, inspired by the artwork of Eric Sloane, a prolific Americana landscape artist. In recent years Ed started incorporating watercolors into his work after studying with an instructor at the Hopedale Community House.
Natalie Tessicini: Entomology Display
During November, Natalie Tessicini, a Milfordian and entomology graduate student will fill the adult display case with insect specimens and educate patrons about these fascinating and incredibly diverse species. Stop by to check out Natalie’s work.
Center Book Group
The Center Book Group will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Milford Senior Center to discuss West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge.
Rutledge, a journalist and photographer who had previously written a history of the San Diego Zoo, based this novel on the real life cross country journey of two African giraffes following the 1938 hurricane that nearly killed them.
Woody Nickel, a character wholly of Rutledge’s imagination, is a poor, lonely 17 year old who travels with the giraffes to ensure their safety. Along the way, Woody develops deep bonds with the animals and learns much about human nature in all its complexity. Told from Woody’s perspective as a 105 year old man decades later, the tale is a bittersweet ode to a time that shaped him for the remainder of his long life.
To reserve a copy or to learn more about the Center Book Group, please call the Information Desk at 508-473-2145, ext. 219 or email Anne at [email protected] .

Donations Needed for Gift Wrapping Station
Last year’s self-serve gift wrapping station was such a success, we’ll be bringing it back in December! We provided paper, tissues, bows, tape and tags along with space to wrap away from prying eyes. If you have any wrapping supplies to spare, we’d welcome any donations at the Information Desk.
