LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

The Chairman of the Upton Veterans Council, Russell Wood, would like to extend personal thank you’s to the various groups that joined us to extend solemn remembrance of our fallen heroes in the Upton Memorial Day ceremonies.

I would like to add sincere thanks to the people who join us at the cemetery ceremonies. They are not there for recognition but for adding to the very important proceedings that recognize the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Thank you so much for attending!

Sincerely,

Joseph McMahon

District 8 Commander

Massachusetts VFW

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

The new Mendon Senior and Community Center was edged out in a close vote.

At the annual Mendon Town Meeting on May 3, 2024, the residents authorized the design and construction of a proposed new Mendon Senior & Community Center by a two-thirds majority vote of 156 in favor to 78 opposed.

Unfortunately, at the Town Election on May 14, 2024, the ballot question needed to fund the center by a debt exclusion did not pass, with 577 in favor & 629 opposed, an approximate margin of 48% to 52%.

Countless hours of meetings, presentations and active outreach went into the process to develop and create a plan that would address growing community needs and enhance community activities.

The existing Senior Center will continue to offer services that socially and physically engage our senior community, in addition to services that support our non-senior residents as well. We look forward to the future with the hope that one day our continuing needs will be fulfilled.

We wish to express our deep gratitude to all who supported this endeavor with your kind words, encouragement, and your votes.

With warmest regards,

Mendon Senior & Community
