Upton Annual Town Meeting and Town Election on May 2 and May 7, respectively

The Town of Upton will hold its Annual Town Meeting on May 2 at 7 p.m. at
Nipmuc Regional High School.

The warrant contains 34 articles and is available at bit.ly/UptonATMwarrant2024.
In addition to the articles related to finances and zoning, residents will also be
asked to:
- Authorize the Select Board to acquire by gift, purchase, eminent domain or
otherwise for conservation and passive recreation purpose the fee interest in
47 acres, more or less, located off Dairy Drive (the land has approximately
4,000 square feet of undeveloped shoreline on Lake Wildwood);
- Approve costs associated with investigating the acquisition of approximately
15 acres off Mechanic Street;
- Approve a debt exclusion to cover Upton’s portion of a $10 million from the
Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School District to its member districts
for a roof reconstruction. If Upton town meeting approves this request at this
meeting, it will also have to pass at the ballot box on May 7;
- Approve $500,000 for costs associated with reconstruction of Fiske Avenue;
- Approve funds related to public safety vehicles;
- Approve $41,000 for the message board replacement;
- Approve $45,000 for Kiwanis Beach sand replacement;
- Approve $25,000 for a feasibility study for burial of utilities in Upton Center;
and
- Accept Azalea Lane as a public way.

Upton’s annual town election will take place on May 7 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at
Nipmuc Regional High School.

Residents will be asked to approve a Proposition 2 ½ override for the funding of
the town’s portion of a $10 million request from Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional
Technical High School for a roof reconstruction. Note, this ballot question is binding only
if the May 2 Annual Town Meeting approved the corresponding warrant article.
The election for town seats includes a contested race for Select Board (two
candidates for one seat) and Planning Board (two candidates for one seat).

Uncontested races include:
Moderator (1 year term)
Assessor of Taxes (3 yrs)
Cemetery Commission (3 yrs)
Board of Health (3 yrs)

Mendon-Upton Regional School Committee (3 yrs)
Trustees of the Public Library, 3 seats (3 yrs)
Trustees of the Public Library, 1 seats (1 yr)
Recreation Commissioner (3 yrs)
Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds (3 yrs)
Upton Housing Authority (3 yrs)
