Milford High School Senior Recipient of Governor’s Citation

Milford High School Senior Arthur Gomes, a distinguished scholar, athlete, and musician, has received a commendation from the Massachusetts Governor for his exceptional academic achievements, sports, instrumental music, community service, and state assessments. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, Arthur has also been awarded a prestigious four-year fully funded QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship to attend Middlebury College in Vermont. This scholarship not only underscores his commitment to academic excellence but also highlights his active involvement in the community.

Arthur's diverse range of achievements includes:

•   Serving as a Captain and valuable member of the MHS Varsity Volleyball team.

•   Contributing to the school's band as a skilled saxophonist.

•   Participating in the Volleyball club.

Notably, he secured first place for the Jazz Band in the Central district and earned the title of an AP Scholar. His dedication to community engagement is further demonstrated through his role as a student buddy and recipientof the Student Achievement Award by the DESE, recognizing high-achieving students across the Commonwealth.

Among his numerous accolades, Arthur stands out as one of the select recipients of the QuestBridge scholarship, an accomplishment considering the highly competitive pool of over 20,800 participants. Additionally, he has been honored with the National Hispanic Recognition Award by the College Board.

In a momentous event scheduled for January 31, 2024, at 12:45 p.m., joined by MHS Principal Josh Otlin, Associate Principal William Chaplin, and Guidance Counselor Claudia Tamsky, parents, Joao Gomes and Juliana De Oliveira, Christopher Wilson, School Committee Chair, Kevin McIntyre, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools, Craig A. Consigli, Ed.D, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Arthur will be presented with the Governor's Citation by Santiago Mourao, Consul General of Brazil in Boston, Julio Cesar de Jesus, Deputy Consul and Head of the Trade Section of the Consulate of Brazil in Boston, Selectboard Chairman Paul A. Mazzuchelli and member Michael K. Walsh will present Arthur with citations from the House of Representatives on behalf of State Representative Brian Murray and a citation from the Selectboard.

Following the formal ceremony, Arthur is slated to address his peers in Milford High School's Teacher Resource Center, sharing insights on navigating success in school, particularly during the senior year. This recognition marks a significant milestone in Arthur's academic journey within the Milford Public School community, showcasing his dedication to personal growth and community impact.
